TI’s OMAP 4 bringing 1080p support to smartphones and MIDs

Last year Texas Instruments announced it’s OMAP 3 platform, which enabled 720p playback from a mobile phone, but this year they have went forward to a chip that handles 1080p.. Titled OMAP 4, it aims to bring 1080p support, 20mp imaging a almost a week of audio play time to mobiles.

At the heart of the platform is a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 chip, that will play nice with Linux variants such as Android and LiMo, Symbian and Mobile Windows.

The main mobile phones manufactures in industry – Nokia, Samsung Mobile, Motorola, and LG Mobile – have made an agreement to produce a “universal” charger, so they can save money for costumers and to avoid polluting the environment.

This charger will also be more energy efficient and they have marked 2012 the year to have most of the devices adapted to this new technology.

Skype coming to Nokia phones

Nokia and Skype have said that they plan to integrate Skype into certain Nokia devices, strating with the N97. When you go to your contacts list, you will see your Skype contacts status when they go online. Costumers will also be capable to get connected using 3G and WiFi to make/receive free Skype-to-Skype voice calls.

Like we have mentioned, Skype will only be available starting with the N97 and in future devices; along some other Nseries devices.

Nokia signs with ST-Ericsson

Nokia and ST-Ericsson have signed a partnership, in which ST-Ericsson will cooperate with Symbian Foundation, based on ST-Ericsson’s U8500 single chip. The U8500 single chip will enable the wide adoption of feature-rich multimedia 3G Smartphones.

This chip is the first one enabling full HD, and with its combination of a dual-core SMP processor the chip will offer a unique PC-like Web-browsing usage in coming smartphones. This means that Nokia is getting in on that 1080p High Def Video Recording, so they’re about to launch something big in the forthcoming months, let’s see what happens.
