N79 vs. N85 – and the winner is?…

n79_vs_n85_open2

The Nokia N79 and N85 devices are basically identical, because both bring S60 (3rd Edition FP2), 5 mp cameras, between other features, but there are still some differences between both.

The N85 is a solid phone, with an OLED display, but as far as “The Guru” says at Symbian-Guru.com, the Euro variant started showing some build quality issues within about 2 weeks of use. Nokia sent him an N85 NAM to play with. On that NAM unit he was sent, which was factory-sealed, the build quality was much better. So it would appear that the Nokia N85 NAM has a better built quality than the Euro variant.

“TheGuru” have tried both and he says that he drawn back to the N79 continually. A solid phone and every buttons easy to press are some of the reasons he finds the N79 the best of the two. He also says that the “standard” 2mm Nokia charging port is a must, while the N85 becomes frustrating. The N85 navigation keys are very stiff, while the N79 is much softer when you get used to the raised softkeys and end/send buttons.

Finally, the N79 seems to be the winner. A better built quality, an offer of more customization options, with it’s user-changeable XpressOn covers are the main reasons why we advice to choose this one if you can’t decide which one to choose.  The N85 (Euro variant) is also being reviewed here at adityasphones.wordpress.com.

The ‘Tube’ Finally official!

The 5800 Xpressmusic

The 5800 Xpressmusic

Today at a function in London, Nokia finally unveiled the Nokia ‘Tube’ i.e 5800 Xpressmusic. This is the first ‘touchscreen’ phone based on the S60 platform. This however, is not the first touchscreen phone from Nokia.

The phone is running the S60v5 user interface. The new version is bringing in a huge truckload of features with this phone. Below is a list of the things that the 5800 will be sporting.
1.) 640×360 screen resolution.
2.) 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flash
3.) Recording at the above resolution at 30 FPS.
4.) 3.5mm headset jack serving the dual purpose of headphone and TV out.
5.) GPS
6.) Resistive touchscreen
7.) Stylus and a guitar pick for tapping onto the screen!
8.) 8GB Micro SDHC

The Guru says that 90% of the times you won’t need it, when navigating the UI.
How this unit will fare in the market, considering the lukewarm response Nokia touchscreen phones have got in the past, is something of concern. But I have a feeling that this time Nokia has provided a good solution which will please the consumers. Below is the specs sheet, courtesy ‘Symbian-guru.com’.

Ngage Forum is up. Go Comment!

Dotsisx on the website symbian-guru, has an interesting piece of information regarding Ngage. The Ngage feedback forum is up and running. Now quite a few of us have experienced the new Ngage, be it with the demo games or full versions. After our brush with the platform, many of us must have had questions and suggestions. Well here is your chance to put it across to the Ngage developers. You can go to the Ngage Feedback Forum and put across your views. A thing to note here is that one has to register in order to comment. Relax! no lengthy forms to be filled, it hardly takes 45 seconds.

Now a few things that have come to my mind with regard to Ngage. When I first went through the article by Dotsisx I was compelled to put my views across. You can view them here. As you might have seen, it is relating to the prices of Ngage games and about the buying procedure. Honestly, Nokia’s people on top have given little thought on how to make these games and the platform more accessible to the consumer. A company that does not understand its customers will lose them to its competitors. Nokia seems to be on the same path.

Pricing needs to be more realistic and keeping in mind the country and its economics. Do something to stop the piracy of the games. More piracy means less revenue to the company, which means high prices for the person who wants an original version. Updates and bug fixes should be distributed free of cost to the users (those who have the game on their devices) and not charged extra. There is a whole list of things that should be. But I’d rather stop here. Please go to the Ngage Feedback Forum and voice your opinion. You have a chance at improving something to your expectations. Go Comment!
