A couple of days back Nokia released a unique special edition of its new flagship (most bloggers still question whether it is so?) N96. This special edition available in Hong Kong, is a Bruce Lee edition.

So whats so great about this phone? Well for starters, this phone has some exclusive accessories and a imprint of Bruce Lee on the battery cover. The specs for the N96 remain the same. What you do get is a Bruce Lee doll in a yellow jumpsuit, a wrist strap with the legendary martial arts teacher’s name, a key chain in the shape of a ‘nunchaku’.

The phone also contains some exclusive Bruce Lee content, mainly in the form of themes and some rare photographs.

This N96 Bruce Lee edition is retailing for about USD $1300, while a normal N96 is for about USD $600. So if you are a big fan of Bruce Lee, and Nokia phones and have the cash lying around! This is your phone. Nokia have created a website also for this special edition phone. Here is a Google cached version of the website. Check out this video too!

Why does Nokia have non Nseries/Eseries S60 phones?

How many of you readers have a 5700, 6220, etc? and how many of you have a Nseries or Eseries device?

I just was wondering what is the use of having non Nseries/Eseries phones in Nokia’s product portfolio. Everyone knows the Nseries is all about the camera, gaming, internet and music; The Eseries is all about mails, internet and security. Both of them meant for a distinct set of users. So where do the 5700, 5800, 6220 fit in? How does the Xpressmusic line differentiate itself from the Nseries or an Eseries?

When the Nseries offers superior camera & audio experience, why does Nokia need a S60 device in the 5 and 6 series? The S60 enabled Xpressmusic phones are supposed to be a bit cheaper than the Nseries. But with the differentiation between them blurring, its hard to understand why one should not buy a Nseries and buy 5 or 6 series phone instead. The 6220 comes with a 5 megapixel camera and Xenon flash, just like the N82. The audio experience on a S60 enabled Xpressmusic phone is almost the same as one finds on a N81.

With the 5800, Nokia has introduced a touchscreen based S60. Nokia’s Nseries hasn’t got the first touch S60 device! it is the Xpressmusic. Why? I have no answer to that! I’m not complaining here. All I am doing is ask a few questions. Could these series not be converted to S40 devices only?

What do you think is the logic behind having non Nseries and Eseries phones? Leave your comments and start a conversation!

Nseries or Eseries?

This weekend, I thought of putting a poll to see which series would you like to have. I would like to know how many of you people out there would prefer a Nseries phone over an Eseries phone and vice versa.

Which is your phone and why would you prefer a particular series? Is it the camera, is it finish? Let me know! Leave your easons in the comments!

And why do I want to know this? Simple, I want to know what differentiates the Nseries from the Eseries. What do you, the reader find a differentiating factor between the two?

Please cast your votes and leave your comments. Happy Voting!

E71 and BH-903: First impressions

Well now that my exams are over (they went well!). I can get back to something very important. Publishing my first impressions on both the devices. I received the E71 and BH-903 from WOM World on the 20th of this month and the package was huge!

On opening the the package I was greeted with three boxes, A Nokia Mapsters toy which is not for trialling (Kiano) and the E71 and BH-903.

The Eseries device had the similar packaging as the E66 which I had reviewed earlier. Upon opening the box there it was! the E71 in all its glory. The battery which is definitely bigger than the E66’s battery was under the handset. I clicked many photos of the E71 during unboxing it.

Now this device the E71, it looks absolutely awesome. This is what a phone should look like. I tried to draw parallels with the E66, but couldn’t (I take back my earlier words). This device simply is in a league of its own. What a phone! I remember just looking at it for quite sometime, amazed fascinated by its looks. It looked every bit like a work of art, simply magnificent. The dimensions of the device, the finish, the keypad, the buttons, the materials… they all seemed in perfect harmony. The fit and finish of this device is superb.

This phone has excellent lines and the fit and finish of this phone is also of a high order. As I said earlier, This is what a phone should look like. Upon holding the device I immediately felt that. I urge Nokia to make more device that exude this feeling. A little suggestion to Nokia, Please equip your Eseries sales people in the store to have a couple of these devices (not dummies) to be shown to the customers, I am sure they will buy it by just holding it.

The next box was the BH-903. When I saw the pendant design stereo bluetooth device, I thought what a big pendant. The pendant’s design and looks made me feel this is going to be a heavy thing to wear. Firstly I must say the packaging is very good. Upon removing the device from the package I saw the BH-903 in all its glory. The BH-903 looks very much like the Nseries devices. The materials used are similar to the Nseries phones. When I first held the device, I was surprised, this pendant was so light, it could not have weighed more than 25-30gms. The neck strap’s materials clearly seemed to suggest that it is meant for people who live very active lives.

Over the course of two weeks I am definitely going to be putting the two device through its paces. Stay tuned.

The E66 is here: First impressions!

Hello people!!! :) As you can probably make out from the first few words, I’m excited because the E66 has finally arrived at my place (Thanks WOM World!). Let me give you the first impressions…

The phone looks way better in reality than in pictures. I guess something are better off real than clicked! The phone is slick and sleek. I was comparing it with a Motorola L9 in terms of size. You will be surprised, the L9 is roughly of the same dimensions as the E66. Just goes to show that Nokia is capable of producing ’slim’ phones (as if you did not know that, already).

I have played around with the grey E71 a bit. Compared to that, the E66 in white is way better. Though the convienence of having a QWERTY keypad is something that makes the E71 a winner.

The quality for a phone like this is awesome! When placed along side the N82, the E66 made me feel as if I have been playing with a kiddie phone. No offence to N series users, but the E series is using materials of way better quality. I am tempted to not return the piece back to WOM World! (please, oh please couldn’t you give one off in charity, to me! :P ).

I shall be posting in depth reviews of the handset as the days go by! Keep checking it out!
